Stop waiting for the seventh wave and create your own waves

“If you want to succeed in the world must make your own opportunities as you go on. The man who waits for some seventh wave to toss him on dry land will find that the seventh wave is a long time a coming. You can commit no greater folly than to sit by the roadside until someone comes along and invites you to ride with him to wealth or influence.” John B. Gough

What this quote means is that you shouldn’t wait for someone else to get you to your goals. If you want to succeed, it is strictly up to you to make your own opportunities, to lead yourself down the road towards your goals. If you wait for that special person to come along to inspire you and help you succeed, you will be waiting in someone else’s dust a very long time.

If someone does take you along, it is usually so they can reach their goals, or because they will profit from you. Once neither one applies, they will leave you on your own.

Outside of a very few close people (parents and close friends), and in many cases not even them, most others will not lead you on the path of achieving your goals. You will have to pave your own road. Don’t sit waiting for someone to discover your abilities, go out there and show everyone what your abilities are.

Once you succeed, that is when you will suddenly find many people eager to lead you to further success. Those types of people are normally called parasites.

There is a gem in each one of us

“If they can make penicillin out of moldy bread, they can sure make something out of you.” Muhammad Ali

What this quote means is that within each and everyone one of us, there is something valuable. Moldy bread, which most people would think worthless and toss away, in the right hands can be made into one of the greatest medicines we have. The same thing applies to you. Within you is a gem, and even if most people cannot see it, it is there. Find a way to expose that gem, or find the right person to help you get to that gem.
